BELLE MELVIN DICKERSON |
A native of Oklahoma, Belle Dickerson spent years developing the unique style and technique that is her own. Though her early direction was toward realism, she and her work matured into distinctiveness as she rapidly moved through the “heavy palette” stage toward impressionism. She painted landscapes throughout Oklahoma, Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico; however, she continues to return to the red earth of Oklahoma where she paints daily either on locations throughout the state or in her professional studio. Belle began to seriously study art at Bishop McGuinness High School; since then, she attended Oklahoma City University where Brunel Faris influenced her work. Other talented artists who have affected her throughout her study of art include Edith Belrose, Jane Burnhan, Diane Ainsworth McDonald, and Kevin McPherson. Most recently, she studied with Scott Christensen and Clyde Aspevig. Preferred workshops attended include The Fechin Institute at the Branham Ranch in New Mexico, Colorado’s Loveland Art Institute, and Scottsdale Artists School. Belle is currently a member of the Oklahoma Art Guild and has been since 1988; she served on the board of directors from 2000 to 2002, and was president of the guild from 1993 to 1994. Some of Belle’s exhibitions include the Oklahoma Historical Gallery in Oklahoma City, the Dean Lively Gallery in Edmond, OK, the Sandstone Gallery in Guthrie, OK, the Pickard Art Gallery in Oklahoma City, and the Oklahoma Governor’s Mansion. Additionally, Belle is a private oil painting instructor in Edmond, OK and has been since 1999. |
