JULIE KERR

Julie Kerr's interest in art began as far back as grade school where she was encouraged to develop her talent. Her current artistic goal is to concentrate on architectural structures while focusing on color and design. A strong desire to "push" realism leads to interpretations of forms as bold, strong, colorful, and unique.

Art training began in high school augmented by private art lessons.  Studies continued under many well-known artists at the University of Tulsa, Austin Community College, and University of Texas at Austin. Painting, drawing and sculpting all were strong areas of interest. She received a BFA in Graphic Communications from the Southwest Texas University in San Marco.

Julie's inspiration comes from her travels throughout the Texas Panhandle, New Mexico, Colorado, and Oklahoma regions. Favored subjects include landscapes and buildings, focusing on old churches and missions.

Her work has been represented by Alexandra Stevens Gallery on Bent St. in Taos, Walden Fine Art, and Grimshaw Fine Art also in Taos, New Mexico in the past 8 years.  The Brooks Street Inn exhibited her works in their rooms.  Weems Gallery in Albuquerque has also represented Julie. Her artwork has been juried into Best of the Southwest Fall Show and the Amarillo Spring Show, both in Amarillo, Texas. Her artwork has been on exhibit at several local museums and galleries in the Amarillo area of the Texas Panhandle.

Born and raised in the Texas Panhandle, Julie has come back to her roots. This welcomed returned is a blessing as she reconnects with the scenery, climate, and people. This is the region where art was introduced to her. This is where the artistic growth began. With her return she feels she has come full circle; she sees the endless creative possibilities that surround her. Currently teaching art at Borger High School, she has built a regional and state recognized program sending many award-winning students on to artistic careers.
